Hey, alot of what you're saying here resonates with me. Being someone who makes gaming content as well I feel your pain. It's very hard to get genuine follows and an audience. I've had a few lucky moments but nothing consistent. I figure if I keep making content and improve it each time along the way I'll eventually get there and while I'm at it try and get involved in communities and circles of like minded people that might be able to support one another. Keep at it though!
