In this review, we’ll be reviewing Discovers Cash back debit card and savings account. So the reason I applied to Discovers Cash back debit card and savings account was to find a debit card that had cashback capabilities, and savings account that at least kept up with inflation. Discover happen to have both. So it made It also convenient for me since I used them as my primary credit card provider. The card makes shopping a little more fun knowing every purchase you get 1% cashback on. While it may be only 1%, it’s more than you’d usually get from your typical debit card at a local bank. Having 1% cashback is on par with the discover it credit card as well so basically whenever I shop I know I’m getting a little bit of money back whether shopping with credit or debit. It isn’t gonna make you a ton, unless a spend a decent amount of course. But it was more than what I was making with my previous debit card that didn't have any benefits.
Personally how I take full advantage of the cashback is that I changed my settings In my discover account to automatically transfer all my cashback earnings back into my discover savings account, so It can earn the 2.1% interest discover offers for their savings accounts. Again, you’re not going a make a killing from your cash back immediately, but in the long run it’ll add up with daily compounding interest. A bit more about the Discover cashback debit card, It has added security, the chip helps protect against fraud because it creates unique transaction data when the card is used at chip-enabled terminals in stores and at atms. Speaking of atms, they’re going to be your best friend as the only way to get physical cash from discover is utilizing one of 60,000 atms discover works at. The discover app can help you locate an atm near you, so you don’t need to go hunting down for them. You can track your balance through discovers user-friendly website and app. First off if you want to deposit money into your checking or savings account, you must do it through the discover app. Depositing a check into your account is quite simple. open the discover app and your phone’s camera will scan the front and back of your check. It’ll then send it off to discover for them to confirm your deposit. It’s that simple.
Onto the discover savings account. Discover offers an impressive 2.1% APY on your savings. To put that into perspective that’s roughly 5x the national savings average. If you had just $15,000 in your account for one year, you’d accumulate roughly $315. Other perks of the account are that there are no balance requirements ever. And no ridiculous monthly maintenance fees either. Similar to the checking account, you can deposit funds via the discover app. The savings account functions about the same as the checking account. Of course, no debit card is included, and that you are limited on your 6 monthly withdrawals since its a savings account. But with that said, Discover is completely transparent about your account and discloses everything to you.
So, who is the discover cashback debit card for? Personally I think the card is great for anyone who likes online banking and enjoys cashback as their preferred reward. I wouldn’t recommend this card though if you are someone who frequently visits the bank, as there no physical discover bank locations. Not only that, cash won’t do you much good either, you can pretty much only add funds by depositing checks into your online account. If you like doing your banking on your phone, you’re going to love Discovers Cashback debit card. Likewise, Who is the discover savings account for? Personally, I think it’s a great option for a secondary savings account. I would have another checking or savings account open at a physical bank and have the discover savings account as a supplementary account. The reason being is because it is all digital. in the case that you wanted to deposit a rather large check, going through your phone probably isn’t your best option. I think the savings account is great for building up interest on your savings that aren’t in any active investments such as stocks, cryptocurrency, or real estate.
