Home From the Hospital - znap day 33

in #dtube5 years ago

I am home from the hospital and so happy to be back in my hammock. The staff, nurses, and doctors were amazing and I so appreciate everything they did for me. I am one of the lucky ones who have not had a traumatic experience, but it wasn't anything I want to relive.

At first we thought i had over worked my eyes from the many hours i have spent on line or on my phone, but by our final hours at the hospital we found out exactly what happened.

I did have a stroke, but I was lucky that it was not a traditional stroke damaging precious areas of my brain. This was an arterial ocular stroke or "eye stroke" (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/317877.php). Many of the causes are atherosclerosis (high cholesterol), diabetes, and the like. For me, it is the high cholesterol.

Last April my cholesterol number was over 350 and we have been working to get that number down. However, having become more sedentary over the past months because of knee pain and just not wanting to be active has caused me to not do what I should be to be healthier.

I am now having to slow down and do one thing at a time. I am sure this is a good thing, but I do hate that it came about this way. So please be patient, I am sure it will all improve soon.

Have any of you had an experience where you have had to change the way you think because of an injury? We are interested in learning how you adjusted and how you succeeded. Did it change you as a person or just the way you did thing?

Thanks so much for the well wishes and all the encouragement. We appreciate all of you so very much.

Happy to see your home with sweet smile couple..Good health always and God Bless!

Perhaps your doctors advised a change in diet to help with your recovery and cholesterol but the simple joy of sharing a small treat with your husband following a scare like you had can be more beneficial to your emotional health. I'm glad to hear that you didn't suffer trauma from your stroke and do hope that you never have to go through it again. <3
I've no doubt that you've been inundated with suggestions for swapping out substitutions to your diet for healthier alternatives but will be happy to provide some should you ever want. Also, is there a local indoor pool that you could use for exercise (to take pressure off of your knee)?
As to your question, I've been lucky as an adult and haven't had to slow down much aside from back pain for a few days. It didn't change me as who I am but I did have to get creative with kitchen tongs (to grab items out of my reach) and a basket (to 'carry' items as I wiggled it from room to room). But, I was lucky in that I knew that the pain would pass eventually and I just had to have patience with myself until then. If the situation had been permanent, I think I would have to change what I expected from myself physically and get creative with what I was able to do.

Also, please don't worry about responding to me. Just do what you need and take care of yourself, please.

Wishing you all the best and for you to recover well. :^)

Thank you.

I'm so glad that it wasn't worse. What a good reminder to all of us to not take our health for granted. I have been fortunate to not have any serious/severe injuries or illnesses to deal with yet knock on wood

sounds a little scary ㅇ_ㅇ but i'm glad it didn't go into your brain.
i can't think of anything traumatic right now. but anyways i wish you a healthy year for 2019.

Take one step at the time and scott you rock take care of the queen! Ten, take your time I was exstatic to hear the double sight is gone. All the steemitbloggers and All other friends Will be here for you 😘

I think that is the worst about all this. I am not used to doing only one thing at a time. I feel like I am slacking! haha.
Ren

I hope that you're doing better right now. Like what I tell my patients you have to take care of yourself already (lifestyle) like eating the right food, being active, cutting some vices(if you have) so that it won't reoccur. I'll be adding your to my prayers. Get well soon and God Bless!

Thank you so much. I have been battling high cholesterol for a while and I am down over 100 points. But it was not enough. The holidays always seem to get me with sweets and treats. Thank you again for the prayers.

I'm so glad you are home and recovering!

I've had a few minor injuries which have changed my thinking, but only temporarily. I tend to bounce right back into 'immortal' mode afterward. However, I am currently dealing with a fun one called recurrent corneal erosion. Yep, my cornea is eroding - repeatedly. It's certainly changing the way I think about the value of my vision - I dread the thought of losing it in that eye entirely, but other than slowing down it hasn't changed much for me. I am taking more care to follow doctors' orders to the letter though. That's a new one for me. :-)

Keep healing so you can get back out there soon!

Oh, my goodness! I just can't imagine. I have taken my sight for granted all these years and am just now appreciating what I have had. This has definitely been an experience that has woken me up. I am also noticing that I am just slowing down, not giving in. Must say we are pretty stubborn.
Ren

Stubbornness is quite possibly the defining characteristic of humanity's success. Keep on being stubborn my friend! :-)

Yay you are home! Happy to see how you survived this whole process @xcountytravelers! Wellness wishes for you :)

Thank you for the wellness wishes! I was thrilled to be home and to have survived it all!
Ren

Hi, wish you a speedy recovery. Take care!

I am so happy to see that it did not do major damage

Health is wealth and until something happens we only know it and then something happens and we understand it
I have been fortunate to be generally a healthy person, no ailments ... that I know of at least but I also have never gone for a check up so I am trying to do that but the hospital keeps messing things up....but this is not about that

Please take good care of you
One step at a time...
<3

Yes, that is definitely a true saying. However, we sometimes have to be reminded. I am just glad this reminder wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Thank you.
