Destroying Parts of Yourself - How to Fix Bad Habits

Nobody is perfect! We all have negative sides, even if we constantly improve ourselves. What matters is that we conquer our negative sides to improve our lives and every damn person wants a better life.

But the good things don't come easy my friend, you will constantly have to fight an enemy, that enemy is your brain.

Your brain is the enemy, it wants the easy things, it wants to run on autopilot till you take control over it

You against you, the whole fucking time. The people that make the right decisions, that take control over their brain, that dominate that brain, are on the path of victory.

Too Much Bad Decisions

There are things that have become a part of you because you have listened to your brain too much"I don't want to get up, I rather sleep".

And boom you developed a bad habit because you listened to your brain too much -> Now it is time to make war against yourself and terminate that bad habit.

But don't think you can stop after that small victory, the war against your brain never ends.

The Solution + Example

The solution is simple yet hard to execute. The formula to destroy bad habits is the following: Research, learn, apply & terminate.

Let's take a sleep problem for example. Person A struggles for 15 years to fix his sleep problem so he looks through every damn Google page there is to find a solution.

He creates a file and sets 30 days to fix this bad habit. Into that file he writes all the methods that he found while researching on how to fix that problem.

After he wrote everything down he will learn how everything works, where to get the tools from and how to execute it.

He tried everything out and it took him more than a month but he fixed it through relentless fights and perseverance even when he thought that it was a waste of time.

He came to the conclusion that Modafinil and Coffee and a loud alarm clock are the solutions. Before he goes to bed he places a Modafinil and a cup of coffee next to this night table.

He sets the alarm clock to 5 am, 5:15 am, 5:30 am, 5:45 am, and 06:00 am. When the alarm rings he takes the Modafinil and chugs as much coffee as possible and goes back to sleep.

The Modafinil won't let him sleep and the coffee amplifies it's effect and stimulates the body, besides that coffee increases the urge to pee so laying in bed will actually be really uncomfortable.

However, it is easy to fall back into the bad habit because we had those bad habits for so long, we must be careful and continue to apply the solution till we are 150% certain that we don't need it anymore.

And that is how you kill every negative habit -> Research, learn, apply & terminate

Breaking habits can be tough. Like you say we run on auto pilot and we are designed to do this in an effort to be efficient. This turns against us , especially in the modern world, when live is too easy.
I read that it takes 21 days to form a habit and for it to start working. One thing I have found to be useful is replacing a bad habit with a new beneficial one. It fills the void where the old one was.
I like the journal idea for keeping track and battling every day against bad habits. One month is a good timeframe, as it is long enough to form a new habit but not too long so there is temptation to get lazy and slip backwards.

I absolutely agree.

Bad decisions are good learning tools. You start where you failed. It doesn't mean you'll ace it right away.

It's doing something about it and making sure that next time you are way better than the first time you started. ^^

Yes, Dawn. Bad decisions have taught me loads of things over the year. Some hard lessons lol

Man you know that's one of my fav scenes of all time. I never thought about actually what that line meant until you bought it up in regards to the war against your brain.

I still play that video in my head. The one of you putting the middle finger to your head and then laughing.

People often don't do battle with themselves because they lack some kind of motivation. When you are motivated and on fire about something it will drive you. It reminds me of this verse that I just read like 2 days ago.

"A worker's appetite works for him, For his hunger urges him on." Proverbs 16:26

I completely agree Earl.

"A worker's appetite works for him, For his hunger urges him on."

You can literally see it that way.

The odinist brotherhood requires you to eat bread and ice for 7 days on a mountain where you can not hear people.

They say that you can not clearly communicate with the gods on a full stomach, the ice will give vision.

Great article. I’m a firm believer in picking a behavior, journaling the behavior for a few days to better understand it, and then daily journals tracking my progress. It worked for quitting smoking. Progress monitoring is what teachers call it. Blessings

Yes, that is a very good thing to do.

My problem is the drugs I need to take most days make me not able to fall asleep.........

I DO try and get up on those days early so not to make my internal clock all messed up . Sometimes that helps. But mostly, for me, more drugs are not the answer.

I think as you said everyone is best off writing their issues out and taking the time to figure something as important as sleep out.

but most do not put a high enough value on sleep or good sleep.

:D

Drugs have their uses, if you use them to improve your health and life then you are using them correctly.

Everyone is different, what works for me might not work for you.

I do Snook, thank you.

you are very welcome!

and yes, unfortunately, the drugs I need to take are to keep me from a slow very painful death. So those must be taken or I would be stupid.

and any drugs I try and take has very bad side effects and always has. The good thing about that is going up in the 80's taking drugs was not something to be enjoyed. :D

so sleep for me is a consent struggle but I should keep better track and see if I can find more patterns then I already know :D

It is always smart to improve yourself and I like the idea of tracking your sleep, I did that as well.

I always recommend nature, whole foods, no sugar, coffee, sports, comedy & a goal that needs to be achieved.

That will keep you young forever.

a goal that needs to be achieved.

Answer: Not go insane every day :D

but yes, now with the slider a new goal needs to be thought of.........that and not posting for a day because it has been 3 weeks since I have had 100% voting power lolll

hmmmmmm........ If you are looking for something to post about a good topic might be how you go about using the voting slider.

Meaning what percent (%) is a good general rule for comments, posts and stuff........

If you think it would make you money of course.

Hope you are enjoying your day!!!!

You just watch out that you don't drop below 80% and only reward the best content/friends.

That is how you use your slider.

Thank You!! and I try not to but it's very hard :( so many good things to read and so many great comments.

and sorry I did not answer you OMG 2 days ago....been a bit crazy here and now I have a bad cold.........
sorry, it's how I type. what just pops into my brain :D

but I'm trying to find a slider % I can live with but I have not been at 100% in??? 3 weeks so trying not to post but that's not working either loll

Oh and my last Sim video, I used a song by simgirl and sigh it has swearing in there LOLLL and makes me feel old :D but the beat does go with the building of the house :D

Hope your day has been wonderful!!!

Hi!! Happy Monday!!

Just so you know I tagged you in my last post. Here is what I wrote so you know in case anyone asks you about it.

Steemit is what you make it. How much time and energy you want to put into to it is how much you will get out of it. @valorforfreedom is a perfect, newer, example of that.

telling you so you are not surprised........as I hate surprises :D

Have a wonderful Night!! :D

you mean like........
well written.
very informative.
you are so smart.

:D sorry I was compelled by a wicked imp to write that LOLLLL

Hope you are having a great day!!! :D

tip! (Seeing if this works on older posts, as have my first winning idea re steemit post if it does)

I wonder what you are intending to do Helen.

a very good thing, life is very cruel, when we are wrong in making decisions all will be wrong. The formula for breaking bad habits is as follows: Research, learn, apply & stop the habit, thanks for sharing, I am happy with this post

regards @fujaxxi

These three Research, Learn, Apply are the main things to to Fix Bad Habits. great and informative article thanks for sharing

Have you researched Modafinil? Any side effects?

Be careful.

I would generally say pharmaceutical drugs are ok for acute problems but when used for chronical problems they can cause health problems in the long term.

Read the article.
