I don't like relativism either when people use it to refuse to debate a point but I still don't know a way to refute the idea of relativism. Isn't nitpicking a proof that relativism is correct? Like, what is the objective criteria of good fiction, aren't you also judging shows relative to those shows that you like?
Does that mean that if someone has standards that they apply across the board whatever those standards may be then it's okay because all that matters is consistency? For example let's say that A always judges shows by how ecchi they are, B always judges shows by how good the premise of the show is, C always judges the themes of the show, D always judges a show by how interesting the characters are, D always judges a show by good the visuals are, E always judges the shows by how complicated the plot is, F always judges the show by how much it agrees with his moral beliefs? Then all their judgements are okay as long as they apply their standards equally to all anime? Wouldn't it make more sense to change the criteria depending on what genre of the anime is(i.e. the intention of the creator)? For example should a mystery anime be judged primarily by how complicated the plot is and how much it still makes sense? Should an ecchi comedy be judged by how funny it is? Should a romance anime be judged for the romance in it rather than the action(unless it is an action romance)? I mean if you are just applying your gold standards how are you not just judging anime by your enjoynment? After all your golden standards are based on your enjoynment, right? And if not then what are they based on?
