MY LIFE AS A CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER: The @dtube version

in #dtube6 years ago (edited)

Owk, a few days back, I participated in a contest which encouraged the use of @dlive in posting steemit videos and it was fun because I had never used @dlive before and was never interested in doing so until I came across that contest.

I have always been a fan of @dtube and it was pretty much easier for me to use and so I decided to make a dtube version of my experience on site in a more elaborate manner.

The above video shows my life on site with emphasis on the casting of the first floor slab which we did on that day, but I believe this post would not be complete if I dot tell you guys how we got here and the story behind this very construction.

I am a Construction Engineer and I work with a Real Estate/Construction firm here in the western part of Nigeria. We deal basically with the construction and development of estates and we sell them afterwards to potential buyers.

The firm I work with isn’t a private one but a firm, partially owned by the state government and so we also work for the state government.

Recently, we developed or better still, renovated an estate for the state government and we were given 60days to complete the job as the Governor of the state wanted to use the guest house for his son’s wedding where he wanted to lodge his special guests.

It was a very tedious task but we pulled it through with maximum accuracy and the state Governor was really pleased with our work and decided to award us the contract of building a mortgage bank for the state in a town very close to Lagos.

Well, I know by now, many of you would be itching to know the company I am talking about that has won the accolade of the state governor. I am talking about no other company but the leading Real Estate Company in Ogun State, OPIC (Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation).

We started this project on the 21st day of the month of March and at the time, it seemed almost impossible to achieve our dream of completing the job within the 60day window but as I speak to you, we are on day 40 and as you can see, we have gone past the first floor slab stage and have currently increased our pace to see to the completion of this job.

Like every other construction project, we started with the excavation of the foundation trenches and then the foundation block works as you can see in the picture below.

Since it’s a bank, we had to form the reinforcements for the vault which took about 2 days. As a matter of fact, we underestimated the duration of constructing the bank vault and it took a chunk of our precious time from the project.

We were able to complete it in 4 days, including the reinforcements and formwork by the carpenter and we proceeded with the casting which came out just the way you see it in the picture below…Perfect

When this was achieved, we proceeded to doing the back filling and earth filling of the and when the foundation was ready for concrete filling, we casted it and the picture below shows the day we did the casting of the ground floor foundation slab.

The next was to start with the raising of the block walls which we started immediately and in just 2 days, we got to the lintel level as shown in the picture below and after that, we did the levelling of the block walls and got the building ready for the slab formwork and reinforcements to be done.

Everything was set and casting was done as shown in the video above.

It has been an exciting experience and we haven’t stopped putting in our best and will never stop until this project is completed. Below is the 3D drawing of the bank project we are trying to achieve.

You will get an update on this project as soon as we are done but till then…STEEM ON
