What Was The Point Of Social Media?
The point of social media was to connect us and allow us to explore different ideas and seek out the truth on our own without relying on mainstream news to tell us what to believe and how we should perceive the world.
Today that isn't what we have and while blockchain isn't an absolute answer, many of the alternative social platforms and blockchain integrated platforms are championing free speech and individual liberties. We need to plan ahead to reap the benefits that blockchain will bring and that many other new types of platforms will bring when legacy platforms are ultimately replaced due to their lacking adaptability and flexibility.

I may be a bit ADD as I found I couldn't focus until after looking at all the advertising in the background, then would go off train of thought when subscribe would pop up...until I got use to it.
I am not sure the original intent of the internet had a lot to do with social media as much as social media grew into the internet. I sort of look at it as similar to the big bells dilemma many years back with the monopoly they had before the government forced them into a break up. A lot like many other things now the rules of engagement so to speak have changed. Government doesn't look out for the people as much as they sell out the people, usually for their own personal gain. So do I hold much hope they'll come in change up the structure of how these social media giants conduct themselves? Not really. I say that in part because everything is looked at from a globalized aspect now. We have come to accept doing things we wouldn't have said are okay decades ago all in the name of globalization and not hindering/stepping into it's pathway. In regards to social media we just have to look at what is acceptable for say google to get away with in China by going along with their stern censorship of all things internet. It may attribute to things could be worse just look at China syndrome instead of penalizing a company for conducting business in that fashion. We are accepting that everything goes now mentality. Once we step over the boundaries there are no more boundaries.
