Finally a Break in the Weather - A Wednesday Walk Listening to the Birds...
We have been having a lot of extreme cold weather here lately, in fact it's been the longest stretch of extreme cold in 83 years but finally it broke!
Me, JJ and Bruno are going to take advantage of our first nice day in a very long time to get out and about.
The birds are far more active now with the warmer weather instead of being hunkered down in the trees, trying to conserve heat. It was good to hear the abundance of bird calls from above the tree tops.

It wasn't quite warm enough for JJ the cat, for he had became a real softy over the winter and although there was sun, there was still the cold snow on his tender tooties, so he headed back in to enjoy the outdoors from inside our sun room.
There was plenty of bluejays around, chickadees and the occasional Raven call.

It is so nice to begin hearing some of the birds singing again! They have been so silent all winter that no it makes me hopeful that spring may come.... eventually!
WE're finally getting a break in the weather so I am hopeful we will be experiencing springish weather soon and the return of the many song birds who nest in the Boreal forest where I call home (although I won't want them to return too early for we know there will still be some cold fronts moving through just not as servere or long as this last on and I wouldn't want to see the birds suffer in the cold) I always wonder about the hummingbirds when they return in the spring and there isn't any blooms out for them to drink nectar from. They must have other food sources besides that. I always make a special flowering pot just for the hummingbirds. This is the month when spring arrives, Yahoo!
I still have at least 2 months to wait for spring to get here. We can seldom plant annuals outdoors until mid May. I have noticed that hummingbirds begin returning here when the locust trees are in bloom. They have a small flower that are often high in the treetops and most people don't even notice the blooms, but the hummingbirds do!
Cool! the hummingbirds might be feeding off the pussy willows when they open up that is one of the first flowers here.
I bet you are right. They also eat small insects.
I am enjoying the break in the weather too... for now, the forecast is showing warmer for the next while, I hope it is right!

We probably haven't had it as cold as you but I am getting sick of it also and would love a warm day or two

Ohh yes I am hoping that more and more each day we havent had a lot of snow, but enough to be annoying and fairly cold

Dog looks very inquisitive of the changes happening around, cat appears confused by you going outdoors.

You're welcome! Although the sun was shining and it was warmer than it had been, it was still too cool for JJ, the cat. He has become a real softy over the winter.
Bruno the dog, loves being outside and is very alert to everything going on around him, this time it was the birds.
We try to get to the beach or park once a week, it means driving with our dog who adopted us recently, still learning to train him in the vehicle. Small very small walks daily around the garden.
I've always love the sound of birds, your winter birds are so beautiful!

Your welcome! It was so good to hear them out chirping again for it has been so extremely cold that the birds weren't flying around much.
Funny how the weather effects them and I didn't really realize it until we had a bright sunny day with a bit milder weather - the difference in the activities of the birds.
