Panfish on a Flyrod

Panfish on a Flyrod

Just a quick video of landing a panfish on my Okuma rod and reel using a white Bettis popper. The park is Shamrock Park in Tyrone, GA and it is a fun little place to get your flies wet in between hitting the creeks in the mountains. I usually catch a few panfish and bass in this pond.

I have tried poppers on my fly rod a few times and have never caught a fish, even in areas when I catch some decent panfish (for around here). I need to try again this spring. It looks like a lot of fun.

It really is fun. I usually run the smaller poppers and the only ones I've ever had luck with are either chartreuse or white.

Good to know. Thanks!

The most fun way to catch them. Great post!

Yeah, poppers have always been my favorite. I'm originally from SE coastal GA and that's the only thing I've ever fished with until the last ten years when I started messing with wet and dry flies in the streams up here. Nothing like when they hit that topwater popper like a hammer!
