Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa, a true servant of humanity, was born on August 26, 1910 in a place called Ekopje in Madania.
She was the youngest of three siblings and father was a successful businessman. At the age of 12, she decided that she would become a missionary.
At the age of 18, she started working for Loreto Sisters, which was very active in India. On 24 May 1931, she was sworn in as a nun and taught at St. Mary's School, Calcutta until 1948.
She stayed. While going to and from school in Calcutta, she was often moved by the condition of the poor living in slums. Once he saw a dying patient, who could not even take his last breath due to pain. Mother, with permission from her officers, established a 'Missionary of Charity' in Calcutta. Opened a school for homeless children, opened a hospital for sick people, and started providing affectionate service and affection to the dying patients. Many other girls also became members. She would also serve the poor and helpless with full love.
For orphaned children. An institution was also opened. Mother used to go to the homes of people to ask for food, medicines and clothes. After some time people came and started donating themselves. _ Mother's work was appreciated globally because not only in India but also in countries like Asia, Africa, Latin America, Poland and Australia etc. Mother's institution started doing its work. In 1965, Pope John Paul ordered Mother to serve in other countries. Mother received many awards and honors. These include Pope John Paul Peace Prize (1971), Nehru Prize for International Peace and Intelligence, Balzan Prize, Nobel Peace Prize and Bharatratna. He also invested the money received from the awards in the service of the poor and patients. On 5 September 1997, Mother passed away on the 10th day of her 87th birthday. On October 19, 2003, Mother was declared the 'Blessed Teresa of Calcutta'.
