I suppose just because so many people use Steam to find their games, it's their way of trying to get more people to see it. Especially with the advent of WebAssembly, I think we're going to start seeing more browser games which are truly cross-platform while also being better games, especially now that the main game engines have adopted the technology.
It's funny how many features there are in games these days that seem common, but are really much more advanced than the games before.
