How to Use a Basic(Flat) Eyeshadow Brush to Apply a Beautiful Eye Makeup Look

in #dtube7 years ago

When’s the last time you’ve taken a second look at those essential eyeshadow brushes you usually get with an eyeshadow palette?

You know the ones – they’re flat and probably the most basic of all the eyeshadow brush options you can get.

What’s cool about these brushes is that, despite the fact that they look so deceivingly basic, you can use them to create a full eye makeup look. Due to their oh-so-basic design, they can be used on your main lid area, the crease, and the lower lash line.

How should you use this multi-useful brush?

The Tools That You’ll Need:

• Eye primer or concealer
• Basic flat eyeshadow brush (one or more)
• Eyeshadow (palette or single)
• Brush cleaner (optional).

If you only have one brush to use but want to create a multi-dimensional look with multiple eyeshadows, you’ll need to clean your brush in between each color. A special brush cleaner will help you do this so you can remove all residual color from the brush before proceeding.

How to Create a Drop-Dead Gorgeous Eye Makeup Look

I’m going to keep things simple today. Here’s how to create a full eye makeup look using just one basic eyeshadow brush.

Step 1: Prep the Eyelid Area

If your eyeshadow tends to build-up in the crease of your eyelid, you should definitely use an eyeshadow primer. However, if you have this problem in addition to skin discoloration, you should try using concealer on your eyelid first. The concealer will hide discoloration so your shadow colors can pop!

Apply powder to your lid after applying the concealer to avoid eyeshadow creasing.

Step 2: Main Shadow Application

Dip your flat eyeshadow brush into a shadow color of your choice. Tap off the excess, and then apply the shadow to your main lid area – just until you reach your crease.

Step 3: Blending

The great thing about this brush is that it’s not just for applying eyeshadow. It’s a great blending tool, too. You can use it to eliminate any harsh lines and edges, defusing the shadow to create a softer look.

Use the front part of the brush to blend your shadow until you get the desired finish. If you blend too much, don’t worry. You can always go back and add more shadow later.

Step 4: Lower Lash Line

Another reason this brush is such a great tool is due to its flat, slim design. Because of that design, this is an ideal brush for adding shadow to your lower lash line.

Start at the outer corner and slowly draw the brush toward the mid-section of your lash line.

Step 5: Add Depth

Your basic eyeshadow brush isn’t just useful for applying shadow to your lower lash line – you can also add it to your upper lash line instead of using eyeliner.

Use a darker shadow and draw the brush along your upper lash line, fading the shadow out towards the outer corner.

Unlike a liquid liner, using dark eyeshadow as a liner is a great way to add depth and drama without looking too strong or harsh.

Step 6: Add Mascara

To finish your beautiful look, don’t forget to sweep on a coat or two of your favorite mascara.

You might think you won’t get a lot of use out of a basic flat eyeshadow brush. The truth is, though, that this tool is like the Swiss Army Knife of makeup brushes. A single brush can be used in multiple ways, allowing you to create a complete, stunningly gorgeous eye makeup look.
