Bujinkan Theme of 動きの流れ Ugoki No Nagare Preview

From https://www.rojodojo.com A preview of my Bujinkan video exploring the Bujinkan theme of 動きの流れ Ugoki No Nagare. We began by reviewing the hanbo kihon of 腰折 koshi ori. Then we used that to express 帯刀 taito or the manner in which you wear or hold a sword. The sword then transforms in the space to become two weapons: the saya for leverage, and the sword for cutting. So within the flow of movement there is constant henka.

This kind of approach is common with 仕込杖之術 shikomi tsue no jutsu. It often acts as a hanbo or a cane first. You use it to strike or provide leverage. But of course the hidden sword can appear anytime in the movement to cut or stab.

This is how with 動きの流れ ugoki no nagare, within the flow of movement the weapon transforms. In fact sometimes we release the saya or even propel it into the kukan as a projectile weapon or as metsubushi. Float the saya out into the kukan to hold or control the space for you.

Next we continued this approach using the hanbo kihon of 附入 tsuke iri and 鬼砕 oni kudaki. With a shikomi-zue, you have a small thin blade which is mostly used to pierce or cut arteries. The method for this is called 締め斬り shime kiri.

We finished with 巌石 ganseki. As the weapon transforms, the saya serves as kyojitsu while the sword applies the leverage. This kyojitsu gives full power to 動きの流れ ugoki no nagare.
