Caballo Viejo es una canción popular venezolana, con letra y música de Simón Díaz. es un tema que plantea la llegada del amor cuando uno menos se lo espera y además de que no hay edad ni tiempo para amar.

El tema es como una metáfora ya que compara al hombre con el caballo y a la mujer con la yegua, utilizando elementos netamente propio del llano como cuando para darle vida a una historia de amor, de allí sale la expresión:

El carutal reverdece y guamachito florece y la soga se revienta.

La vida es corta y hay que aprovecharla cuando se puede, se ama hoy o nunca, porque después no habrá tiempo.

Caballo Viejo no puede perder la flor que le dan, porque después de esta vida no hay otra oportunidad.
