THE AUCKLAND ZOO , New Zealand. Playful tumbling Otters [Video] Highlights.
Do you feel some kind of way about certain animals being locked in cages in ZOO's? Though I feel uneasy about watching some animals in cages, I am thankful animals like the Rhino have a place safer for them than in the wild. It's sad that a ZOO is the safest place for some of them. The Auckland ZOO has an open animal hospital, where you can watch animals get treatment through a large open area, only separated by glass, you get very close, being able to see the treatment, feeding or operation. Obviously conservation & education are the most important things about a zoo. My young daughter loves animals beyond cute & fluffy things and has a natural interest in all details about snakes, reptiles & other spiky things. These are just a few highlights from our visit!
Kaitiakitanga - Conservation
At the moment in New Zealand we have a disease effecting our Native Kauri trees called 'Kauri Dieback". We are trying to protect them, with a Maori Rahui (restricting access) to entire forest in the Waitakere ranges in West Auckland. I feel it's important for the council to also stop laying possum poison through the forest, or the forest will never get the chance to heal.
We must wash our feet before entering area's with Kauri, to prevent the spread of Kauri Dieback.
And just for fun, how many lizards can you spot in this picture?

Great album, Kay!
Well I feel the same as you about zoological parks actually. Sometimes captivity is the only chance for species to survive, and as long as they're treated according to their needs they can enjoy quite a healthy life in the parks.
I fully agree about this.
Until 2016 I've been working for the "Loro Parque" group on Tenerife. They even have their own foundation in order to finance conservation which is also their no. 1 purpose. That's the way how zoological parks should be managed all over the world.
Thanks for the inspiration :-)
Enjoy your weekend
two lizards,
should I point out
I think there are about 5. They are amazing at being camouflage, even in person i didn't see them all straight away.
It's fun to enjoy. You are photographing with great ability. I have never seen firsthand this amazing zoo. Thank you for sharing my friend.
