Who Moved My Cheese?

So I read in the papers, another Big One had to shut their doors and let their employees go. Utusan, one of the Top Newspapers in the country has been around for 80 years, but yesterday they announced they had to cut their losses, and served their 700 employees dismissal notices.

This is exactly what happened with me over 3 years ago. Even though the radio station belonged to the "biggest" newspaper, they had to cut their losses and made a decision to let us a go.

When I started off in the industry, it was the start of private radio stations. Prior to that, we only had the National Stations. In fact, my first radio gig was with the first Independent Station.

Suddenly, everyone was trying to get their hands on a license. It was hot property. You are awarded a frequency/license for 10 years which will be reviewed at the end for extension. Unless of course you do not perform according to the terms of the agreement, then there is a chance of suspension or in an extreme case, loss of license.

And just twenty years later, radio does not guarantee you the revenue that it once used to. The English speaking market were/are consuming content differently. They were going online for their music, news, traffic reports. It was a whole new ballgame.

That's only 20 years!! Less actually because there was already a decline even before that. Things are changing very quickly. If we are going to stick our head in the sand and hope that it doesn't happen to us... hahaha.... well, here I am. It can happen to the best of us and you want to be prepared.

How do you prepare yourself? And as a parent, how do you prepare your kids?

Thank you for dropping in and hanging out. Truly appreciated.

Cheers,

Times constantly change hun. Good thing we humans know how to adapt ;)

@tipu curate

So true...
And the kids will figure it out as they go :D

Some things do change. Some things should change. Some things should not. Parents can ask children questions and gradually push them towards adulthood, towards problem solving. That's the wisdom found in playing, in role playing.

Change is inevitable... now to deal with it, eh?

We talk about the different scenarios and possible outcomes and how to deal with... but not quite the role playing... that's interesting though

Thank you for the comment :)

Well, that's good.

Gaming? Like E-Games?? That's getting big, and being included in international sports meets! Olympics?

Anyway, I think the ability to adapt and accept change is really important these days... As you said, spread your eggs and don't rely on anything that's "a sure thing" which might turn the other way any time! I've had that happen too many times in my working life/life, and had to 'tai chi' my way out of trouble! Lol... so I learn fast... ;)

Yes, E-Games....I guess I still need time to warm to the idea :)
Even pole dancing is being considered for the Olympics...

Adapting and accepting ... so true... especially when everything is escalating... and I what I know and have experienced is probably not relevant to what the kids will

You sound like you are the master of tai chi :)

Pole dancing? That I hadn't heard... ooohhhh, interesting...

Hahaha, master of tai chi, not really but I get by... ;)
