Visiting The Green HousesteemCreated with Sketch.

This weekend's freewrite, I decided to go a different route.

Since we are celebrating Christiaan's birthday, we decided to go out of the city and spend a weekend in one of the districts. Most trips, we tend to go South of Paramaribo, where all the popular weekend spots are. When I describe green, I usually focus on Suriname being the most forested country in the world, as our country still has over 90% forest (Yes, I mentioned this before :)...). However, there is no award for having the highest percentage of forest and currently, we are working quite hard on losing this position through gold mining and deforestation :(.

On a more positive note, we did find a new spot, The Green House, located in the district of Commewijne, which is owned by a company that specializes in gardening. So, I decided to take some pictures (and a short video) and share them with you.

The entrance. On the left the apartments that are available for rent. We booked one for one night.

A very creative way to hide the outside unit of the airconditioning.

The apartment wasn't spectacular, but had everything needed. Yes, I know, the airconditioning takes a bit away from the green concept, but, trust me, it is sometimes needed, probably more against mosquitoes than for the temperature. I might elaborate on that in a future post.

The greeting area of the event center. The place gets pretty busy with people visiting during the day.

I wonder why they call it the Green House...

The teaser shot I posted yesterday. The landscaping was really beautiful.

The pool was a little busy when we got there, but the advantage of staying over was apparent when we had the pool to ourselves the next morning.

There was a pathway in the back to view the rest of the garden. We decided to take some fun pictures. Elynn posing with a Heliconia (called Palulu in Surinamese, known as Lobster-claws in English)

The birthday boy going out for a swim :).

Dear freewriters,

This marks the end of my adoption week. I can't thank everyone enough for the support I've received the past week. Of course, it is not the end but just the beginning.

@mariannewest, as some past adoptees, most notably @wonderwop and @wakeupkitty, have really supported and interacted with me the past week, I feel inspired to contribute to future @freewritehouse adoptees as well. As I'm currently getting some amazing SP delegation from @nathanmars and @faustofraser, so I will provide a full daily freewrite upvote to the next 4 adoptees (with possible extension).

What a beautiful spot. I'm sure this was relaxing for you all. I love the shot of your son in the pool. It reminds me of swimming with mine at that age. Lucky you :)

Thanks! Yes. It was a great spot to relax. However relaxing with two small children remains difficult 😅.

Swimming was a lot of fun.
