Da die Kriminalität hier in Santo Domingo sehr hoch ist und die Dominikaner ein äusserst hohes Sicherheits-bedürfnis haben, wird faktisch jedes Haus mit Toren und Gittern verbaut. das betrifft vorallem den Eingangsbereich, die Garage und meistens auch alle Fenster.
Ich musste mich zu Beginn meiner Auswanderung zuerst an dies gewöhnen. Oftmals gibt es auch keine Klingel, so das man sich immer lautstark bemerkbar machen muss, wenn man auf Besuch geht. Und drinnen kommt man sich oftmals wie in einem Gefängnis vor. Mit der Zeit gewöhnt man sich daran.

aha und weil das nicht gerade schön aussieht, bearbeiten die Dominikaner ihre Tore auf spezielle Weise?

Ganz genau. Das fängt vom einfachen und gradlininigen Tor an und geht bis zu einem Gesamtkunstwerk mit Verzierungen, in verschiedenen Farben und unterschiedlichen Materialien. Oftmals wird der Eingangsbereich so richtig zelebriert und ab und zu auch mit Beton- oder Stukaturelementen gemischt. Ich hab Euch hier mal ein paar Beispiele:

Die Tore werden oftmals in wochenlanger Handarbeit direkt vor Ort zusammengeschweisst. Die Arbeit ist hart und schweisstreibend. Dennoch ist sie sehr angesehen, ensteht doch jedes Mal ein kleines Kunstwerk.

Ja auf jedenfall und man kann direkt einen Bezug auf die Bewohner des Hauses nehmen. Schönes, grosses und spezielles Tor gleich oftmals reiche, gehobene Hausbesitzer. Dementsprechend sehen Tore etwas schäbiger aus, wenn man nicht zur "Uper-Class" gehört.
