Vlog 388: My take from the State of the Steem forum from last night (18th January 2019).
Yesterday I listened to the state of Steem forum hosted by @pennsif.
@ned was there as a guest.
Most important points I got from the conversation:
- Cost reduction is the number 1 priority for Steemit inc. (aka. Hivemind, Rocksdb).
- The ads on Steemit.com are generating revenue already.
- SMT's and communities are not a priority right now and haven't got any sort of timeline.
- The current power down of the Steemit account is a risk reducing move after a potential HF treat.
- Programmatic sales of STEEM by Steemit inc. will keep going.
- Steemit inc. wants to stand more shoulder to shoulder with the community and developers in the future.
- The current team of Steemit inc. consists of 12 people.
- Steemit inc. owns 74 million STEEM.
- With Hivemind a community app can be build by a third party.
- in 3 years from now Ned would like to see more sustainable businesses build on Steem, STEEM to be a great and more valuable crypto and for Steemit.com to be a vibrant webapp.
I talk about it more in my vlog.

all the problems and drama can be handled when you have great communication.
it was good to see steemit inc show up and communicate with this community.
that’s the only thing i pray we see much more of going forward. everything else can be dealt with and developed. the communication with the community is so important. it was good to see.

Yeah @exyle sorry that I wasn't there yesterday. The work is taking it's toll with much pain and tired as.... but I keep on working. I will invest in steem and I will install a full node when I have a year of costs on the account of the provider. The splitting of that server took my worries away 'if steemit grows as large as face book then you don't have enough ram' now you just plugin an extra hard drive. That is great but you still need 3 servers I heared 2x61Gb and 1x 32Gb I will reach out tomorrow to the steem node specialists how I can add value to the stability of the steemit network. I'm more a windows then a Linux nerd but everything with a guide is doable. Today I rest and drink beer. Oh and I will also get a anonymous invest account no-one shall now that it is from me it will be my pension yes you heared it right... I think steem is Microsoft in the beginning. Now with the new scalable full node. It's great.

The writing is on the wall. SMT's were likely a mental masturbation session for most people. They don't exist and everyone trying to build something with the anticipation of SMT's should likely utilize EOS or Telos for what they were trying to do. Sometimes the truth hurts
I know that some people don't like that they are mainly focusing on cost reduction but I think that's the wisest choice right now.
wait...what is with SMTs light?
but i feel much better with more communication and I hope this will stay this way
SMT's especially have always been a distraction from our core competencies.
Cool to see the transparency of Ned and positive vibe on the pipe. :)
Those are some interesting and lofty goals. I think they should all definitely be attainable though. It is nice to finally hear what their plans are and to get some verification on their commitment to the platform.
If funding is an issue with SMT and there is the demand, why not due an ICO for development funding? I am sure that the demand for the special token would be good although I wouldn’t be sure how they integrate it into the current dual currency structure. Maybe it could ultimately become the token to fuel the decentralized exchange in the future.

Let’s hope the developers bring something like SMT-like to push the value upward.
Keep on postin
