Help my video won't upload.

Are you having a problem uploading videos to Dtube??

For weeks now the video's were taking ages to upload, and on many occasions they were failing. I could not understand it and this caused me to give up on the use of DTube.
I hunted high and low for an answer, but many people were in the same position as me and DTube was very new.

However it was not until recently, when I ripped some old you tube vides to upload to the platform. I noticed the videos uploaded a lot faster than what my videos were uploading.

Because I am a mac user, my videos are created in .mov format which is standard on imovie. So I searched for a way, that I could convert them to mp4 format and I am glad that I did.

You need to download a free converter tool like in this link below.
https://www.iskysoft.us/lp/video-converter-ultimate/?gclid=CjwKCAiA15vTBRAHEiwA7SnfczOq_JHrAVXyQH1_wLgJDziKPd1eNXQQ6Klsg2bep6eLGnclBiTsKxoCvuMQAvD_BwE

Once downloaded put your .mov video in and set it for MP4, I convert mine to high definition the actual settings are in the video that is in this post.

Once converted then try to upload the video and you will see that it uploads a lot quicker than on .mov. I have learned very quickly, that really all videos should be in this format. There is no reason why I should give my viewers any problems in watching movies, and making it as easy as possible for them.

So if you are struggling with your videos taking an age to upload try this out. I amm not sure if you are having problems on Windows using moviemaker, but if you are also try this it might very well save you a lot of time.

So as I come to the end of writing this, I am happy to say that it has uploaded so I hope you enjoy the video.

it took good 10 minute plus to start playing this video. Hopefully developers are trying to fix this asap

I never faced this issue as I only uploaded mp4 format. Great to hear your issue is now resolved.

Thank you yes me too hopefully this will help others who had the same issues as me.

Its the platform, its beyond broken! I was unable to load a single video here for close to 10 minutes just now, and even my own videos that worked yesterday returned an error. Yesterday I couldnt get videos to load at all at times, and I fiber running at 100MB/s I'm a college educated IT specialist too, I know how this stuff works. This platform doesn't have the server infrastructure to handle mass streaming of videos back to users is the underlying issue. It bogs down and at times and stops transferring data entirely.

It also has nothing to do with .mov files, same problem with .mp4's as well. The platform does reencode all videos uploaded to a highly compressed mp4 format, and it reencodes all videos, regardless of the original format you used. Upload screen itself makes this very clear.

All being said, badly bloated code, bad server infrastructure, and too many errors. If they want this platform to last, then they need to fix these problems. As fed up as I am with YouTube, at least the platform works. Meanwhile, DTube has about the level of functionality of an Apple IIe its pathetic.

Either way, if this continues, then what the heck is the point of producing content here? I wont stick around if this continues.

Hi @djdaniel2020
Just to point out where you said that it has nothing to do with .mov files, the point of the video I was doing it to share what has happened to me in the hope it somewhat helps. I am in no way a technical expert but every time I do a video now I don't have many problems.
I am sorry to hear about the problems you are however however, my guess is that still this is new I started using DTube from day one and it was way worse than this.

Either something works or it doesn't you know. Being new isn't a viable excuse either, they should have load tested this platform before they ever launched it. I will reiterate what I originally stated, bad code and bad server infrastructure.

Well I am not defending them but I don't have the same problems as you have so I really cannot comment on that but to say hope it improves for you.

had problems just the other day. I use 'handbrake', an application that is available for the mac, windows, and linux. It has the best user interface I've ever used for such an application.

https://handbrake.fr/

it has presets, fyi, I used the ones under 'web', but I'm sure others would work.

Wow Klevn thank you for sharing that info really appreciated.

Im uploading only in mp4(rendering in vegas13) - and out of nowhere, im unable to upload anymore...for straight 10~ hours now im unable to upload. pretty sad, hope it fix itselfe, since i can upload anywhere else.

anyway, i feel great that u managed to get rid of your problem!

Hey thanks for the comment sometimes it can still happen to me what I also do is come right out of the page and back in. Dtube for me does not seem to refresh real-time I have to manually update it.

Check your bandwidth before uploading, that may cause an issue - https://steemd.com/@whiskeyw0w

My video's export from iMovie in .mp4 - What version of iMovie are you using? Seems you are upscaling the video in that converter from 720p to 1080p. If the native file is 720p then export it at 720p. I think you'd really benefit from using HandBrake. I uploaded my HandBrake Tutorials to help people using any video platform. Your files will be even smaller and more optimised and I also cover an area which is often overlooked and that is audio in video files.

I do export it to 720 but it saves it in .mov and not mp4 to be honest the convertor I use does the trick but good thing about handbrake though.

I'm just uploading a video now about my experiences uploading to DTube and giving some tips. I think from looking at the size of your files you'll be able to shave off hundreds of megabytes from your files using HandBrake.

Thank you for sharing I will be sure to watch it for sure.
