I'm happy you found it, I was worried that this one was gonna get kinda buried so it's great you got a kick out of it.
As to the layer properties, a lot of trial and error with this kinda work!
Usually it's either multiply, overlay, screen or hard light though.

yes, definitely! my photoshop skills are still very basic, drawing only, so anything that goes more in depth in how to use layer properties effectively is a plus in my book!
