Personally I think Youtube tags do work, I can tag my animations whatever I want, however if I add "dragon ball z" and "Anime War" to my tags on youtube, it will get thousands more views than other videos.

However I think this is working in the wrong way, it doesn't reward hard work, it rewards going with the flow. There is no creativity in that.
