Yes it's a beautiful Island, but has has a rough history with regards to deforestation and loss of indigenous life.
About 1.2 million here at present, although the locals tell us the island is slowly shrinking. Reunion is growing due to being in the active plate zone and having frequent volcanic eruptions.
