Reputation? | What the heck is it and what does it mean.
Reputation score on steemit is a bit of a mystery. We know we want it to be positive, but what does it mean aside from that is not often discussed. Hope you enjoy the video.
With Gratitude,

I definitely found it to be useful when I was starting out on Steemit, when I was deciding what content to look at - rightly or wrongly?
Also, a high reputation score carries some protection from downvoters if you ever find yourself in that situation, so I understand.
In the couple of books that I've read about blockchain technology, reputation is an important metric. It's to do with trustworthiness and, from what I understand, is a more reliable version of things like Trip Advisor reviews and things of that nature. So, for example, if you're travelling and need to book an Air BnB, you may be offered certain properties based on your reputation, so it's a kind of filter. It could work for financial transactions, contracts, etc. I'm not sure how open to manipulation it could be, but it seems to be a fairer way than say getting trolls voting down a bistro on trip advisor just for lols.
As to how it applies on the Steem blockchain? I really don't know. It may be that it's simply an inherent part of blockchain technology.
A high reputation provides some protection from down voting trolls that might otherwise easily shut down a newbie. Additionally a raising score, probably indicates how well your content is being received. While, if it's slipping downward, one might take a step back to consider their message and it's delivery.
The ONE impact of having a high reputation that I can see is it makes your posts resilient against flagging. It goes down when you are flagged by someone with enough juice, and when it drops below a certain value (not sure what), your posts are automatically hidden. People have to actively click to reveal your post to see it ( in a similar fashion to the NSFW stuff).
Mine has stayed 55 for a month or so, since the last time @Dtub upvote me. 😭
To be quite honest it's not something I take into consideration when viewing a post. I find I rely more on the title of the blog and the accompanying photo.
I was wondering if you may share your thoughts on building a following for newcomers. I find my voting power diminishes rapidly. I've turned more to resteeming at times to help promote posts that I enjoy while I allow my voting power to build. There's also the question of these bots and actually purchasing steem. It's difficult to figure out which way to turn.
I enjoy your posts, you're very inspiring, and I find the content most useful. Thanks for your contribution.
I'll work up a post on building a following for newcomers.
Thanks Skipper.
Nice talk, Bob! :)
Great work it was really helpful thanks
When I look at posts I only pay attention to reputation if someone is way under 25. I usually take that as an indication that a person may be a spammer that has been down voted.
When I saw my reputation for the first time I was wondering where this platform has the information from that I’m 25 years old, haha! As it increased I knew this had to mean something else.
Reputation is very tricky. Even when you are below zero doesn’t automatically mean you have bad content. Maybe you just messed up with some whale who is now flagging you for everything.
