I Made a Soft Box!
I'm using two Aputure lights for key and fill. I have the AL-F7 on my desk and made a softbox today from a shoebox and the tissue that came inside the shoes. It works pretty well!

Neewer Soft white Umbrella has worked well for me and is cheap. Might have a look at it on Amazon.
I do have a 150cm brolly -- what's that in US money - hang on... 60 inches. Right, perhaps I need a smaller one then. The big one takes up too much space and I have trouble setting it up and certainly can't leave it set up. It works great for flash photography, which is why I bought it a few years ago. Thanks for the tip brother!
Yeah these are smaller. 84cm.
Another diy fix is to use a white shower curtain a meter or so in front of any light that’s too bright. The bigger and closer to you it is the softer the light will be making a super nice soft fall off on the shadows

Thanks Alex. Another good tip. I'm gonna try a smaller brolly than the one I have and see how I get on with that. Not sure what to do about the desktop LED though. It's really small and there's no room for a modifier. I guess I could just turn it down a bit!
I’d personally stay with as big a brolly as possible to get the light super soft. But maybe the desktop led could be mounted on a stand and with cardboard as a modifier epithet use as a rim light from above and behind directed down with a gel to add a warm rim light or bounce it off a wall
