I like your style starkemmy! Self motivation can be hard; as you say, it can come in waves and getting through low points can be a real challenge. I find community really helpful for that when my own self discipline lets me down; being part of a community on Steemit has helped me through those dark times when I don't feel very creative. Sometimes a break can help too though.
