Ahh, little help for a noob please. If I buy EOS on via Binance or Gate.io would I still need to take this next step of registering? Or do those entities do that for users?
You still have to take that step. By registering with them, they know who to send the permanent token to. This token is just a placeholder for now. It's a way of "mapping" where the EOS tokens went.
