It was a pretty ballsy gamble for May to appeal to the people at the cost of politicians. Maybe she's working a longer game of some kind; but since she promised not to re-run for PM after this period in office it can't be a populist bid to cling to power.
It might be her legacy she's thinking of; it's finally dawning on her that the nation sits in judgement and her head is highest on that block, despite the behaviour of a bunch of indecisive twats on both sides of parliament.

I am sick to death of the British "parliament" at the moment. All faith lost and just want this to be over with now.
