SUMMER ADVENTURES - episode 7 - MORNING WITH THE BAT
Yes ... the bat is the animal in focus here ...
... and the main character of this post ...
... but first ...
... let me introduce ...
... this plant. It has lovely yellow flowers, very similar to dandelion flowers ...
... and fluffy seeds ... also the dandelion - type of seeds ... maybe is some sort of dandelion, I made a little research through the internet but couldn't find something useful to determine the species ...
... and it has a multitude of sticky hair ...
... all over the stem ...
... and the leaves ...
... small things that come in contact with the plant ...
... like this seeds of grass ...
... easily get attached ...
... or trapped.
While hunting the insects, bats are often flying very low, skillfully maneuvering between various plants and very intricate obstacles ...
... using the extremely sophisticated sonar navigation ... but sometimes ...
... for who knows what distraction ...
... this happens.
I found this bat early in the morning, he was like crucified on the plant ...
... with no hope of getting out of this situation ...
... so I helped him.
It took time and patience, bat's wings are very sophisticated and tender and I was scared that I could damage him in the process. But it went alright. First, he took a very short, clumsy flight and ended in the grass, where he hanged himself on one, dried out, stem and proceeded to clean up and adjust the wings.
He was very meticulous.
It took 10 - 15 minutes, and was very fun to observe, reminded mi of cats :) Never before I was able to observe a bat this close and for so long. A great experience.
When this was over he rested for a while in that position ... and then started to crawl through the grass and jumped along the dusty little path and finally flew to a nearby cypress tree. There he was high enough...
... and in the better position.

This is so amazing! What a cool adventure with the bat! It looks like your bats are bigger than ours. I'm glad you saved him. I loved the video. The cicada soundtrack is a nice touch.
It was a big surprise for me, never encountered a bat in this situation before. :)you can always count on cicada music in this period, they sing the whole day long, from the early morning,

Nice save on the bat. I found one last year mummified on a thistle plant, good thing you saved him.

In my family we rescue cats, dogs, oppossums, mice, spiders....etc. Never yet a bat. Great video. I'm sharing with my kids, and my granddaughter.
