It is inefficient to undertake several tasks at once. But there is a small loophole that will help you become an exception to this rule!

There are such concepts in our perception as a figure and a background.
On examples: if we look at the person sitting on a couch, the person for you – a figure, and a couch and all the rest – a background. But we can do it differently: focus on the couch, not the person.
Then the couch automatically becomes a figure, and the person and everything else – the background.

That is, it is important what we highlight as the object of our attention. This will be the figure at the moment.
We always choose what to do as the figure (what to focus on) and what to do as the background. So, two people who look at the same picture in the gallery, can perceive as a figure very different things.

How does this help us to increase efficiency? Let’s do it!

  • Realize what in the current work is a figure, and what the background,
  • Expand the shape (include more background).
    It is difficult, at first sight ...

Let's repeat on the simplest example of reading books: to read faster and more in one moment, it is necessary to cover at once attention not one line or one word, and at once 5 lines or more.
How do you feel about the page that you read?
For you, only a couple of lines are displayed, or can you "take a picture" of half a page at once? This means to expand the figure – instead of a couple of lines you perceive half a page or even a whole page at a time!

This effect I learned on psychonetics (I am a certified specialist in psychonetics with the right to conduct seminars and training). It is an exercise in deconcentration of attention.
Deconcentration - the uniform distribution of attention throughout the background, when the entire background becomes one figure of attention.

In life people sometimes make the deconcentration of attention, not knowing about that. But when you do this exercise regularly, it becomes a skill.

DcA (deconcentration of attention) is a very cool thing that can be useful in different situations: you can read faster, quickly perceive what you see as a single picture, hear volumetrically, feel with your whole body what is happening around, strengthen the peripheral attention.

Let's do a visual deconcentration!
Let's sit with a straight back (don’t bend it at the waist, just keep the spine straight).
Look forward to one point in the center of the field of view on some fixed picture (for example, the best exercise to start – look at the carpet or scarf with a pattern or blanket with a pattern).

While you're choosing where to look, I'll tell you a little theory. Now I'll tell you what to do next.
Remember that you always look at the same point, your gaze is fixed. But your attention is moving. That is, you look at one point, but with peripheral vision you see not only this point, but also what is around it. Deconcentration is the opposite of concentration.

Let’s start!
Looking on the same point with your eyes, attention embrace two extreme point from above and from below. Your eyes are looking at the center, but your attention is now at the top and bottom of the field of view.

Now that your attention in these two points, add two more – extreme left and extreme right.
Stay in that state for a while. Your attention is now four points of view.

Now gradually fill the attention of the border of the field of view, connecting all four points.
Now your attention is a thin rim on the border of the field of view.

Gradually cover with attention all the field of view, all that is now in front of you.
You still look with your eyes at one point in the center, but your attention is distributed evenly across the field of view.
It doesn’t highlight any shapes, it fills the entire field of view equally.

Sit like this for a while.
Maybe in the process of deconcentration you'll see electrical flashes, or you'll start to see how foggy it is. If you look at the carpet or blanket with a pattern, it may seem to you that the fragments of the pattern move.

That way, you will enter an altered state of consciousness. This is no ordinary consciousness.
Now that you've sat in this state enough, close your eyes for a few seconds, open them and slowly start moving to get back to normal.
Now that you understand how to deconcentrate your attention, do it for 10-15 minutes.
