Today in a chat discussed the topic of freedom. Initially, we agreed that it is possible to use foul language, but very rarely, and basically you should do without them.
But we were joined by a man who swears a lot. In the end several people left this chat.
He says that here we are gathered in a free chat, but we limit ourself – that is, we don’t want to use foul language and don’t express ourselves by such words.
Everyone began to explain to him that this is a culture of communication, nothing personal.
Just in society it is accepted to communicate culturally and to respect each other and try not to offend, but swearing offends some people.
He didn’t understand. How can we explain something to a person that he refuses to understand?!
Of course, I thought about what freedom is. Freedom - the state of the subject, when it determines the reasons for its actions, it is not due to any external factors.
But there is an important addition. Freedom is not permissiveness.
Your freedom ends where the freedom of the other begins.
You're only free when you let others be free.
You're free, when you take into account the possibility of the evils of your actions for yourself and for others.
For example, a drug addict or an alcoholic is not free if he degrades and brings misfortune to his family.
Freedom implies responsibility.

Interesting ideas. Some people see swearing and bad language as 'freedom of speech', becuase their countries had a lot of censorship.
But I also agree that there needs to be a pleasant environment and atmosphere in which to hold discussions.
Cursing can be seen as being angry, or lower class. It depends on the culture too. At the same time you have the right to say 'Enough is enough'.
It's up to the group.
For me, I was banned from a group because the woman running it accused me of spying for another woman that she hated. Strange.
Then I found out she was causing division here on DTube too.

However, there are many senses of freedom to discuss. For example, no one is 100% free. For example, I would like to be on the beach now in a very calm inland city. I'm not, because I do not have the money to go. On the other hand, a billionaire, for example, is not free either, because he needs to take care of his money all the time, in addition to thinking about ways to increase it.

very true on freedom. yes sometimes. swearing is ok. but rules are in place. for a reason. one has to be respectful of others. of their actions
