Fue compuesta por Alan Menken quien se encargó de la música y Howard Ashman de las canciones y las letras, una unión perfecta que les hizo ganar el Oscar a mejor canción original por Beauty and the Beast y otro a la mejor banda sonora.
La bella y la bestia (título original en inglés: Beauty and the Beast) es una película infantil de animación estadounidense. El estreno fue en El Capitan Theatre el 22 de noviembre de 1991 producida por Walt Disney Feature Animation y dirigida por Gary Trousdale y Kirk Wise. Está basada en la versión revisada y abreviada que Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont escribió a partir de la historia original, mucho más larga, de Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. Es la primera película animada nominada al Óscar a la mejor película, puesto que en esa época aún no existía la categoría de Óscar a la mejor película de animación.
