REFLECTION -How I painted this portrait- process video

It is not the first time I share this artwork with you guys, but I found the time lapse video in a google photos album and I totally forgot I had it :)
And since I saw that some of you really apreciate process videos and information about technique and materials I’ll share some more with you …

First thing I have to mention is that this started with a study on A4 paper. I wanted to practice hatching in ink so I found a great youtube channel- Croquis Cafe: Figure Drawing Resource, it is exactly what the name says, nude models in different poses for figure drawing. There I found the model and I liked how her skin was reflecting the light. The video was a full figure drawing exercise but I wanted to draw a portrait so I couldn’t see great details but I had the lighting reference that I liked.
I posted the sketch on my facebook page and someone liked it and wanted to commision the same portrait on a bigger scale, much bigger, A1.

I had to adapt a lot my technique for this scale so I decided to start with indian ink washes to establish my values and then layered some ink pen hatching because I knew my customer liked that about the initial sketch.

I used colour pencils for highlighting (faber-castell polychromos), acrylic paint (various brands), powder iridescent pearl pigments and gold leaf for the background and transparent colored layers.
