Court Update 4-23-18: Appearance 12 and counting...
Here is the latest update on my ongoing battle with the Nassau County Just-Us System. This was the 12th appearance, and there still is no clear end in sight. Once again the current ADA seemed completely incompetent to handle even asking basic questions of her own witnesses but the judge, as has been the case, was ever so nice as to hold her hand through the process. Wish I could be that bad at my job and still get away with it due to a pocket of magic mulligans...
The most interesting thing about today was that the judge apparently asked both my lawyer and the ADA if there was any way to settle this without wasting further court time. I refer to this as interesting because the judge, herself, has had the "power" to stop this at any point. During any of the appearances over the last year, with all of the DA office's shenanigans, the judge could have dismissed this case with prejudice. In fact, a number of friends in the legal profession have asked me exactly that: Why HASN'T the judge done so? The only answer I have received thus far is "That's just not how things are done here..."
It seems rather obvious that the DA office knows that they have little to no case here. It also seems like the judge is aware of this, too. My lawyer has made two of the four police witnesses look rather silly in just the pretrial hearings. None of that matters, though, since the State clearly wants its revenue. The fact that they're willing to piss away all of these resources in an attempt to bleed that revenue from me just highlights how perverse this system really is. It's not about justice; it's about control and revenue generation.
So, it's off to wait for the next round. If the pattern continues, then there will be no new news until minutes before the next appearance, if it all. At that point we will be almost 13 months into this. Fair and speedy my ass...

Exactly. I want to take my business elsewhere. I'm (slowly) dying to take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately both the Nassau County and the Town of Hempstead governments seem to want to bleed me completely dry beforehand, if they even let me leave eventually.
