Music from the Folklore is also played in the cañonero style. As I explained in the article "The cañonera music fully explained" (steemit.com/music/@ylich/the-canonera-music-fully-explained), the people who migrated from the fields to the city, wanted to continue singing and playing their regional music, but when they found themselves in a different environment, they had to resort to instruments that were not the ones originally used in their region. That was one of the elements that made this music characteristic, which is to interpret different regional musical forms with the instrumentation that these musicians had at hand at the beginning of the 20th century.

This song is a "Quirpa Llanera", which is one of the variants of joropo. The name "Quirpa" (or Kirpa) comes in homage to a llanera music singer and harpist, in the mid-nineteenth century, who was very popular and who died in a fight during a party in which he was singing. La quirpa is one of the strongest variants within the music of the plains.

This version of the group "Los Cañoneros" is from 1984 and is included in the album "Amor de a medio, Vol. 2".

Esta canción es una “Quirpa Llanera”, que es una de las variantes del joropo. El nombre de “Quirpa” (o Kirpa) viene en homenaje a un cantante y arpista de música llanera, a mediados del siglo XIX, quien fue muy popular y quien murió en una pelea durante una fiesta en la que se encontraba cantando. La quirpa es una de las variantes más recias dentro de la música de los llanos.
