Theatre Of Delays Utopia [009]

What is Utopia? I asked myself this question and didn’t know exactly what it means.
So I asked smartass Google but had even more questions afterwards.

These are the best results:

“Utopia is a term for an imagined place where everything is perfect”
utopiaanddystopia.com/utopia/utopia-definition

“A utopia (/juːˈtoʊpiə/ yoo-TOH-pee-ə) is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect qualities for its citizens. An example is heaven.”
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utopia

“For thousands of years human beings have dreamt of perfect worlds, worlds free of conflict, hunger and unhappiness. But can these worlds ever exist in reality?
In 1516 Sir Thomas More wrote the first 'Utopia'. He coined the word 'utopia' from the Greek ou-topos meaning 'no place' or 'nowhere'. But this was a pun - the almost identical Greek word eu-topos means a good place. So at the very heart of the word is a vital question: can a perfect world ever be realized?”
bl.uk/learning/histcitizen/21cc/utopia/utopia.html

“The word utopia comes from the Greek words ou, meaning "no" or "not," and topos, meaning "place." Since its original conception, utopia has come to mean a place that we can only dream about, a true paradise. Dystopia, which is the direct opposite of utopia, is a term used to describe a utopian society in which things have gone wrong. Both utopias and dystopias share characteristics of science fiction and fantasy, and both are usually set in a future in which technology has been used to create perfect living conditions. However, once the setting of a utopian or dystopian novel has been established, the focus of the novel is usually not on the technology itself but rather on the psychology and emotions of the characters who live under such conditions.”

But what does Utopia mean to me? Or why did I call my track “Utopia”?

First of all, I never think too much about track-titles in general, I often ask friends how they feel when I play one of my tracks to them. From there I start to search for the right name. In this case I had a upwards spiral in mind. A feeling that increases. Maybe wistful and full of hope. A world that I would like to live in, so I came up with “Utopia”.

What do you think about Utopia? Or what do you think it stands for? Could the Blockchain or Steemit the Utopia we have been dreaming about?

I have a lot of questions since I registered here and I am still not sure if steemit is really what it seems to be.

1st question:
Where does the money come from? You are already loaded with some dollars when you register and are able to upvote others posts.

2nd question:
Is it a good idea that ppl have different voting power? Is that really fair? Sorry that I ask so bluntly but as I am very new my 1st thought is that if you can give more power to certain ppl it can lead to abuse.

3rd question:
Who is steemit? It seems to be a company.. And if so they can be bought by others. There have been many social-media-platforms out there and lots of them were very idealistic at the beginning but turned into s… after a while (Soundcloud, Myspace etc). The main reason for that is that they grow too big and been bought by bigger corporation that exploit them after a while for their own benefit.

4th question:
This question isn’t about steemit directly but about crypto currency. As I read in the news: “Macron and Merkel join forces on regulating bitcoin”.
Would it be possible to ban crypto and blockchain? I know the whole reason why it’s so cool is because it’s supposed to be “decentralized”.. (all data is spread across the whole world on countless servers). But isn’t the internet supposed to be decentralized by default?
Wasn’t that the initial idea? And if so, how can it be that people in China are not able to watch Youtube or go on Twitter, Facebook etc. and why is it possible that the NSA can read the complete email-traffic?

Tons of questions for me here. If anybody can explain it to me I would be grateful.

Let’s hope for Utopia and enjoy my track :-)

Regarding question 4. Big companies on the internet like Google have specific domain names so they can be blocked by any government.

Similarly a government can block a site like Musicoin but when you get a fully decentralised app like a digital wallet then it can be blocked as transactions go via the blockchain directly. That is my understanding anyway.

I see.. so the internet isn't free at all :-/

Great beats especially towards the end, really enjoyed it. I'm not sure about living in Utopia, I quite like the Chinese proverb that says 'No fish can swim in water that is too pure" :-)

Try as they may, the Bitcoin blockchain or any blockchain for that matter will never be fully banned... They can try to regulate and create laws around it but ultimately the blockchain itself serves a purpose greater than being just a currency. Once people get over the wave the Bitcoin is causing in the financial Market and just accept that it's here to stay the world will be in a lot better place. Btw, my life is my own utopia, as you can tell even the definitions were subjective. Utopia is all around you right now if you want to see it :)!

ok. seems to make sense. i learned that the blockchain itself cant be banned. but cant they just punish it by law to use cryptocurrency? i mean.. after the black thursday in 1929 a lot of alternative currencies where created and ppl started to trade goods and work so they could keep the economy working.. the goverment didnt like that obviously and suddenly it was forbidden to use those alternatives (punished by law). i mean, cryptocurrency is here.. but is it really that big so ppl would rise up and demonstrate if the same goverments try regulate and control it?

You know that exact argument has come up in a couple of conversations I've had in the last month, I really can't give you an honest answer on that. I wish I could, I know exactly which laws you are talking about, basically there are federal and municipal level laws in America that make it illegal to create an alternative currency underneath the same system of the US dollar. It's even illegal in US territories. However, I think the Dilemma that they are going to discover about Bitcoin is that seeing Bitcoin as a currency is really just a machination of the mind of man, yes it was originally designed to be a solution to the currency problem but the blockchain it has created around itself has made itself useful in more platforms than just currency. I think that's the poisonous yet beautiful thing about Bitcoin, if it truly is the toxic end to the dollar or any other currency that competes against it for that matter, it does a remarkable job at that exact end because it has basically served more than its original purpose in being a currency it has also allowed us complete anonymous transactions across all mediums including messaging, data transfer, really everything. The blockchain is like the encryption for everything that we do, not just hiding our Financial transactions and wealth. I guess if they could prove that someone owned bitcoin they could prosecute them however I think the blockchain will stretch its tendrils deeper into other markets just like it has done with communication. Also, think about the striped CPU power of the entire Bitcoin blockchain going all at once, just the value of the power wrapped up in that giant cluster of CPUs going for the single purpose of currency at the moment... I see that processing power working toward a common goal being used for more than just currency very soon... I feel like it would be a very narrow Argument for a very broad spectrum product to ban it for people valuating it as a currency. If anything I think Bitcoin will eventually find its place in the Commodities Market, however volatile that place may become for it. I just don't see them being able to phase it out completely or make it illegal outright

i wish i could share your comment here on steemit. going sleeping now its 04:47 am here in spain...

Oh yeah bro definitely get some rest :-), just glad to be a part of the dialogue, it would be interesting to have a long talking about all the positive things that Bitcoin is and has done to help reassure people. Thanks for the compliment :-), good night man!
