Slave To The System

Slave To The System is a 12 track release, officially available from 30 November 2018. It is mainly intended for the blockchain, however I have released through the normal channels to get this on additional platforms.

So the plan is to try to post two of these tracks each week over the next 6 weeks and fit them into my post rotation on the blockchain platforms I use.

Half of the release is completely new material, four of the other tracks are remixes or alternative versions of previously released music, whilst the remaining two are tracks that have been released before but have been slightly edited and remastered for this album.

About this track

‘Necromancer (Forbidden Rituals Dub)’ is an alternative mix of a track that was released a few years ago. The original versions (the ‘Invocation’ and ‘Evocation’ mixes) were released as a two track single, I had started this more stripped back dub of it at the time, but never got around to finishing it.

I decided to revise this again as I was wading through the half finished projects on my hard drive earlier this year, but I wanted to make it a bit different to the more house music oriented mixes from before.

To start with I replaced the drums to change the feel of the groove. Then I went to change the bass, which I decided this time I should play on an instrument rather than just trying to follow the original bassline but with a different groove. This was played on a Stagg EDB electric double bass (yeah I know, cheap and nasty! lol) and amped with bass roundup settings dynamic mic’ed on the near-axis. Probably not the best bassline I ever played, but after amping it up I think it gives it a bit more of a moody dubby electronic feel.

I also managed to chuck a theremin in there towards the end, just because I wanted it to sound a bit weird.

Anyway, this is the eighth track from ‘Slave To The System’, released on 30 November 2018.

All types of music appeal to me, particularly the more relaxed genres - chillout, ambient, downtempo, trip hop, jazz, latin, IDM, etc. Usually I will create downtempo electronic tracks, although I go through phases where it gets a bit more upbeat, just whatever I happen to be feeling at the time.
