Silence (Waves of Life) - dedicated to those who suffered or survived depression or mental illness

in #dsound6 years ago (edited)

This is my first ever dsound post. I wanted to start with something close to heart.

After his passing, I felt my friend Neil's spirit visit me to do whatever I could to reach out to others to prevent more unnecessary deaths. I penned this song in the first hour of finding out about his suicide.

The hairs on my skin still rise every time I play this song. Can you feel it too?

It invites us to feel deeply about those that have left us whilst reminding us about the waves in life & to communicate our feelings...

This is dedicated to all who have survived the black dog of depression. If you're feeling down or having thoughts of self-harm, don't be embarrassed or shy or afraid, please contact your country's suicide prevention hotline right now!

30% of sales of this song go to Suicide Prevention Australia.

lyrics

Silence (Waves of Life)

Spoken word intro:
We go through the waves of life.
We go through the up waves. The good times.
We go through the bad times. The down waves.
Nothing lasts.
The good times don’t last. The bad times don’t last.
It’s the cycles of nature.
Sometimes, when some of us are in those low waves, those low times, they can forget that the good times are coming back, like my friend Neil, my friend Pat (also good friends Evren, Daryl, Krystle).
So I find it really important to say that we must communicate how we’re feeling inside.
A problem shared is a problem halved….

Verse 1:
Neil, my friend,
What made you feel so bad that you had to make it end?
Neil, my friend,
What made you feel so sad that you couldn’t bend?

Pre-chorus:
Did you have to break?
Did you have to break?

Chorus:
Silence is not the way,
Silence is not the way,
Silence is not the way,
Lean on me,
Lean on someone today.

Verse 2:
Neil, my friend,
What message were you trying to send?
Neil, my friend,
What made you feel so bad? So sad.

Pre-chorus:
Did you have to break?
Did you have to break?

Chorus:
Silence is not the way,
Silence is not the way,
Silence is not the way,
Lean on me,
Lean on someone today

Pre-chorus:
Did you have to break?
Did you have to break?

Chorus:
Silence is not the way,
Silence is not the way,
Silence is not the way,
Lean on me,
Lean on someone today.
Today. Today.

Neil, my friend, we miss you.
Kneel, my friend, before the altar of your mind.

Thank you for being part of the solution, and sharing your music with us, and also for the tremendous support of those living in quiet desperation and silence. May the silence be broken and the pain halved!

Thanks so much @andrewdaines !
Yeah, I've lost far too many friends to suicide and decided that I must at least try to save some people the best way I know how through music, connection and real conversations.
When my best friend took his own life about 18 months or so ago, I decided enough was enough and released an entire album dealing with the issue and the solutions to the core problems underlying it...
I'll continue to bring it up at my gigs, even if it makes some people feel awkward. Ultimately, it sparks conversations and actions.
Blessings & thanks to you mate...

This outcry with the last 'did you have to break' is so intense. I can feel all like sadness anger desperation helplessness and love. So you ask if i can feel it too- the answer is yes! And i absolutely know how those dark days feels like. This song is a precious thing that has manifested through your feelings it comes straight from the heart.... just beautiful...
And i think it's great that you give something to the suicide prevention....one love!

Thank you so, so much @psionic-tremors !
You’re one of the rare beings that really gets it and feels the compassion that people suffering out there really need.
Bless you mate!
