A poem pour toi! I love poem forms. Everyone thinks they are dead, and that only free verse matters. I really, really don't agree. Magic happens, often, when skill + verbal/emotional sensitivity meet a poetry form. And rhythm is so satisfying.

Here is a villanelle.

The Heart is Full

The heart is full, but barred the gate.
Youth received while fear built high:
This is the lover's foreign fate.

The best of light and worst of hate
Affront the eyes and this is why
The heart is full, but barred the gate.

An alien to home and state
Is one who sees the weary sky;
This is the lover's foreign fate.

The mournful shadows of the late
Emblazoned loves seem now to cry,
"The heart is full, but barred the gate!"

Perception is a leaden weight
When all the shinings fade and die:
This is the lover's foreign fate.

The floods of joy seem to await
The crash of death and bitter lie:
The heart is full, but barred the gate;
This is the lover's foreign fate.
