Welcome back to Mid-Day Motivation with me @justlibby! Every single day, I provide motivational quotes by some of the world's most influential men and women of all time.

Helen Keller knows a thing or two about optimism. Known for being both deaf and blind, Keller passed through many obstacles and learned to persevere even with her disabilities. She inspired the world with her integrity, political activism, and vocalization of many causes.

Born with her sight and hearing, in the 1880s, Keller contracted a disease that left her disabled at just 19 months. As a child, she could communicate only a few words to her family. It wasn't until the 20-year-old Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by Keller's near complete lack of language, allowing her to blossom as she learned to communicate. Source

Keller went on to become the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. With her interests in reading and writing, she was a prolific author. She was "well-traveled and outspoken in her convictions. As a member of the Socialist Party of America and the Industrial Workers of the World, she campaigned for women's suffrage, labor rights, socialism, and other similar causes." Source

Without her unshakable optimism, Keller wouldn't have become a world-famous speaker and author. Her faith in her abilities not only changed her life it also had a huge impact around the globe. Most notably, Keller helped found the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) whose goal even today is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."

It's incredible to think that a woman with so many limitations was able to make such a lasting effect on the world. I think we can learn from Keller's optimism and implement it in our own lives.
