Today's poem was inspired by a casual comment by a friend over breakfast this morning -
"Love is a distraction".
It sparked the idea for today's piece... I hope you enjoy the voice reading if you listen!

Distractions.
Love is a beautiful distraction.
It’s soft allure can pull you away,
Comfort you,
Caress you,
Give you security,
And warmth,
Light and…
Love.
Make you never want to leave.
But Love is like all things -
There must be balance.
You have to still find time to nurture your own heart too,
Hearts shouldn’t be glued,
Or pain will ensue,
When eventually
They try to pry
Apart.
Because if you let Love distract you,
From the mission at hand,
Life becomes bland,
Just a ticking
Of sand.
Lost in a red haze with a scent so seductive,
It’s sweet-tender-touch is so soft,
Yet destructive,
It’s the most beautiful thing that you ever could feel,
But at the times when Love Hurts,
There’s no pain that’s
More real.

At this point, no matter its beauty it becomes an unwelcome distraction. We sink so deep, we realise too late ;(
That our heads barely stick out, with reason.
So true! It's hard to see it as a distraction though when you are in love!
