From the plural, diverse and infinite world in which Venezuelan popular creativity is submerged, Christmas music represents one of its most beautiful manifestations of songs and feelings that identify the spirit of peace and joy in the time of thanking the child God for the renewal of faith for our destiny. That is why, today's song is a Venezuelan aguinaldo entitled "Qué navidad" (What a Christmas) by Rubén Cedeño. This time, this bonus is played by our excellent singer Morella Muñoz (1935 - 1995).
The aguinaldo is a type of traditional-popular music whose musical genre is very particular and characteristic in Venezuela. It is directly linked to the tradition of Christmas and the birth of Jesus the son of God. "Que navidad" is a very popular Christmas gift that refers to the Virgin Mary and the Venezuelan Saints, including San José. It is about the experiences of this saints in Venezuela. It would be a very special Christmas if these saints were Venezuelans. If this were true, the child Jesus would take a teapot and eat hallacas and sweet milky. The idiosyncrasy of the Venezuelan people, their experiences and daily life. From the cultural point of view, this type of musical manifestation demonstrates Venezuelanity as an important element of our cultural heritage.
As for Morella Muñoz, she was a Venezuelan mezzo-soprano, an interpreter of popular music and that also badly called classical music. Morella was part of the University Orfeón of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and became known as a singer since 1948 on the Venezuelan Radio. In 1953 he began his formal singing studies at the José Ángel Lamas Higher School of Music, having as teachers Inocente Carreño, Vicente Emilio Sojo and Juan Bautista Plaza. In 1961 he made his debut at the Palazzo Forte in Verona under the auspices of the Academy of Musical Culture of that city. That same year he was awarded the Prague Spring Prize, then joined the Quintet Contrapunto. He died in Caracas in 1995 and in 2007 his musical work was declared cultural heritage of the Libertador Municipality of Caracas, Venezuela.
