ChordChallenge #6 Larger Than Life by Ed Privat & Ma.De (aka @jeffleinwand & @d-vine )
Hey there !
This is my entry for the ChordChallenge #6 , this is a song called "Larger Than Life", I had a lot of fun working on the song, the chord progression was very interesting, as there were no 3rd major or minor, only a sus4 and a "Power Chord" with a 5th .
I normally write with my compositions with maj7 chords.,, maj9 , dominant 9 , half diminished, so it was a totally uncharted territory.
After finishing the draft of the song I decided to team up with @dvine and @jefflieinwand, because they both so utra talented, and they really impressed me with what the prod they came up with!
The beat is so classy, much classier than what I had in mind, and they stayed away from cliches.
This is crazy fantastic, the way they respected my voice, the way it's sitting beautifully in the mix, this is just mind blowing.
It requires a lot of skills to produce a song with a very short deadline the way they did ! This is for me, radio material , and I am so excited to work with them in the future , and just show the quality of their work.
The lyrics were inspired by "The Logical Song" by Supertramp.
I talk about differents law: The Law of attraction , and the law of the jungle as in

HAhaha yeah me 2 man i always like adding colour to a chord, but there's scales out there that don't use normal triad, like in MEtal, or gregorian scales

Amazing vocals @edprivat I love the soulful chorus :) and that first part of the songs I love the vibrato that reminds me on James Blake.
Also @jefflieinwand that chip tune arpeggio is spot on to accompany the chorus, did you guys use Waves Reel ADT to double Ed's vocals, or is it just a phaser? , I really like how it sounds. @d-vine job well done on a mix <3

We didn't use anything to double Ed's voice.
Ed sent in his lead vocal, a few background vocals & a few ad lib vocals, I just worked them all into the song ;)
You did a dope job , I just want my voice to always sound like that now !

Great @jeffleinwand yes, something I heard was sounding bit doubled, that explains it, tried to find H911, didn't come up only H910 Harmonizer, what is H911 exactly?

Trying to put my finger on it what exactly is H910 Harmonizing, i hear a chorus effect basically and some phaser maybe, but its interesting @jeffleinwand
Basically it's a combination of very short delays and pitch shifting. It's an absolute studio classic. Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Frank Zappa...you name it...used it. Once you've heard the plugin in action you will hear it in a lot of productions ;)
Yes it sounds familiar, that's why I'm asking, I wasn't aware of the effect, as my financial situation prevented me to be an audiophile and to afford the hardware in my life, I will check the digital version, I think I've seen a vst, the hardware will come one day when I have chance to prioritize the finances for a cool studio :)

Nice work! I discussed it with my team and this is we said. Hopefully it can help you along making more kick-ass music!
The background ad libs are great - perhaps give them the spotlight at time, stepping back the lead vocals to let the background take the leads. Maybe you could even begin the song with the wandering voice in the background for 4 or 8 bars before your vocals come in.
Also, at the last chorus you can maybe overlay a female voice with yours- same pitch to add some variety and more emphasis on the climax of the song. That would really add another dimension - it is a sort of love song, whether about a person or something else. Therefore it would be really cool to give "the love" a voice at the end of the song!
