Sr. JOU (Mr. JOU)

A warm musical greeting.

Among the diverse musical genres of Venezuela is the Zuliana Dance. It is a genre that is closely linked to the Zuliana bagpipe, the main difference is that the bagpipe uses several percussion instruments such as the tambora, the Charrasca, the maracas and the Furro or furruco. On the other hand in the dance these instruments are not used, only the maracas are used and there are those who are experimenting with the Peruvian cajón.

Today I bring you a new version of a dance by the composer Pablo Camacaro entitled "Sr. Jou".

As Master Pablo himself says:

"This Zulian dance, Mr. JOU, I composed back in 1977. I lived with my family in Lagunillas, Zulia State. At the suggestion of my friend and brother of the group Raíces de Venezuela, Domingo Moret, I dedicated it to Mr. Jesús Omar Uribe (a great collaborator of the group in its beginnings) on the occasion of his birthday".

I recorded this version in two tonalities, the first is in F#m and then modulate it to the original tonality in which this song Am is.

The dances are generally written in 6/8 bars.

Un cálido saludo musical.

Entre los diversos géneros musicales de Venezuela se encuentra la Danza Zuliana. Es un género que está enlazado íntimamente con la gaita Zuliana, la diferencia principal es que en la gaita se usan varios instrumentos de percusión como la tambora, la Charrasca, las maracas y el Furro o furruco. En cambio en la danza no se usan estos instrumentos, solo se usan las maracas y hay quienes están experimentando con el cajón peruano.

Hoy te traigo una nueva versión de una danza del compositor Pablo Camacaro titulada "Sr. Jou"

Cómo dice el mismo maestro Pablo:

"Esta danza zuliana, Señor JOU, la compuse allá por el año de 1977. Vivía con mi familia en Lagunillas del Estado Zulia. Por sugerencia de mi amigo y hermano del grupo Raíces de Venezuela, Domingo Moret, se la dediqué al Sr. Jesús Omar Uribe (gran colaborador del grupo en sus inicios) con motivo de su cumpleaños."

Esta versión la grabé en dos tonalidades, la primera está en F#m para luego modular a la tonalidad original en que está esta canción Am.
Las danzas generalmente se escriben en compás de 6/8.
