Job Loss, House Show, and a New Song with the Audience
Last week I found out that I lost my full-time job, which was 75% of my income. Prior to this bad news I had scheduled a house concert with my band to start off the new year. I was so down that I wanted to cancel, but with the help of my family and band we decided to have the show anyway. It was bitterly cold outside, but the house was packed with friends, family, and fans, and it was really, really heart-warming. To end the night part of the crowd stayed around me to sing as I recorded a live version of a new song. They quickly learned the chorus, and we did two takes. This is the best of the two.
I had written this song prior to last week, but it really fit in well with the theme of the night. And I went from being somewhat despondent to very, very encouraged with everyone singing along.

This type of music is rarely my cup of tea, but I actually really love listing to this one. I love the organic performance and it really hits home! The crowd did a very good job singing backup! You have talented audience ;)
Yes they really sound good. We need more of them, and less of me I think!
I actually think the balance is close to perfect. It has a really organic feel and I think the song benefits from having a clear lead while their harmony is still audible. Keep in mind this is the opinion of somebody that not only has a metal head on their avatar, but is indeed a metalhead who would usually want distorted downtuned guitars, pounding bassdrum and guttural screaming.
