DRUM12: Layers upon layers of polyrhythm!!
the polyrhythm / limb pairs are getting trippy...
this groove is: the hat and ride hold it down with some simple rhythms, then the kick and snare trade back and forth in a pattern of every 3 16th notes... but they trade off in a 5 note pattern (kick kick kick snare snare), so it's like micro and macro polyrhythms all at once.
Even at this fairly basic level of layered polyrhythms you start to get cool sounds... this is not idiomatic at all, its kinda jazzy due to the hat/ride thing but mainly it's just a trippy, new drum idea. It reminds me of ambient music as much as anything, just that fuzzy brain massage effect.
cool stuff / don't mind my focus face
A focus face is required for polyrhythms. Nice! I've been listening to really complex jazz lately, and I love trying to feel where on earth the beat is.
Its so much focus dude. When you are doing a different thing with each of your four limbs, there is no room for tomfoolery! Jazz guys can crush this stuff I feel like
