How to Tie a Tie!

Here's a perfect demonstration on How to Tie a Tie ?

It’s a sad fact, but there are grown men who don’t know how to tie a tie . If they have a big interview that afternoon, they’ll go shopping for a clip-on. Even if a man does know how to tie a tie, their knowledge is often limited to just one necktie knot.

The Simple Knot

Also known as the Oriental, Kent knot and Petit Noeud, the Simple Knot contains the fewest possible steps and is very easy to learn. Despite its simplicity, this knot is rarely worn in the West but maintains popularity in China. This may be because it is not self-releasing, making it more difficult to untie. The Simple knot is compact with an asymmetry causing it to lean toward the active end. This knot works well with thick neckties or for tall guys who need a little extra length. Live the simple life.

1. Start with the backside of the tie facing away from you, the wide end is on the right and the small end is on the left. The tip of the small end should rest slightly above your belly-button (this will vary depending on your height and the length & thickness of your tie). Move only the active (wide) end.

2. Wide end under the small end to the left.

3. Across the small end to the right.

4. Up into the neck loop from underneath.

5. Down through the loop you've just made in the front.

6. Pull down on the wide end to tighten. Slide the knot up to adjust.

Windsor Knot

1. While there are many different ways to tie a tie, one of most well known is the Windsor knot and its companion, the Half-Windsor knot. It's elegant (some consider it to be the most elegant way to tie a tie) and it is most suitable for the wide spread shirt collar. This wikiHow demonstrates how to tie your tie in a Windsor knot.

2. At the beginning, the wide end of the tie should be on your right side and the other end should be on your left side. Cross the wide end over the other end. Now three regions are formed (Left, Right and Center).

3. Bring the wide end under the narrow end to the Center region.

4. Bring the wide end over to the Right region.

5. Bring the wide end underneath the narrow end from Right to Left.

6. Bring the wide end up to the Center region.

7. Bring the wide end under the knot from Center to Right.

8. Bring the wide end over the front to the Left region.

9. Bring the wide end under the narrow part from Left to Center.

10. Bring the wide end down and pass the loop in front. Ensure that the knot is tightened.

11. Use one hand to pull the narrow end down gently and use the other hand to move the knot up until it reaches the center of the collar.

Kelvin Knot

  1. Drape the necktie around your collar with the seam facing outward and the thick end on your left, hanging two to three inches lower than the desired finishing position.
  2. Cross the thick end under the thin end from left to right, creating an X-shape under your chin.
  3. Bring the thick end back across the front of the knot from right to left. Continue wrapping it around the thin end and pass it back from left to right behind the knot.
  4. Next, bring the thick end horizontally across the front of the knot from right to left again. Slip a finger underneath the horizontal band this creates.
  5. Tuck the thick end upward underneath the loop around your collar.
Bring the tip of the thick end down through the horizontal loop you created in Step 4 (but not the smaller one you created in Step 3).
  6. Pull the thick end all the way through the horizontal loop, snugging the knot down into place.
  7. Tighten the tie by grasping the knot with one hand and pulling gently on the narrow end with the other.

Murrell Knot

The Murrell Knot is a peculiar tie knot that places the skinny end on the outside of the tie. It was invented in 1997 by a man named Brent Murrell who thought traditional tie knots were too mundane. The Murrell Knot achieves a youthful and artistic appearance and it's been described as a "rebellion against the office tie establishment". So if you want to make a defiant statement against your boss at work, the Murrell Knot is certainly the best way to do it. This tie knot is robust and sturdy and it will last you comfortably throughout the day.

1.The narrow end of the necktie will start on the right with the tip extended to the belly button. The wide end of the necktie on your left. Cross the narrow end over to the left.

2.Now bring the narrow end up underneath the loop between the collar and your tie.

3. Pull the narrow end down and to the left.

4. Bring the narrow end behind the wide end and to the right.

5. Pull the narrow end straight up above the center knot.

6. Now pull down behind the neck loop and to the right.

7. Take the narrow end across the front of the wide end to the left.

8. Bring the narrow end underneath the neck loop between the collar and your tie.

  1. Pull the narrow end through the loop in front of your knot.

10. Using both hands carefully tighten the knot and adjust the knot to your needs.
