What Do Recurring Dreams Mean?

Recurring dreams are dreams that we have on multiple occasions that seem to be identical or very similar. A recurring dream means that we are repeating something in our lives that is causing us strife and something needs to change immediately. Often times, these sort of dreams are not very pleasant in tone and will turn into a nightmare if left unheeded. When we dream, it is our subconscious mind’s way of communicating our level of awareness from the day or so prior and whether or not we are in harmony. If there is something out of harmony in our lives, our dreams will attempt to bring this to the forefront of our conscious mind so that adjustments can be made. If we don’t make any changes or simply haven’t understood the message, our subconscious mind will deliver it again..and again..and again.

Recurring Nightmares

Nightmares occur when we are undisciplined, slow to change, and fail to listen to our inner-advisor. It is our subconscious mind’s way of keeping us in harmony by directing our attention to the area of our life that is causing us pain or discord. Much like a parent might gently ask a young child to not touch a hot stove, after the third time of asking nicely, and just before the child actually touches the stove, the parent will startle the child with a yell, “Stop! Don’t touch that!” The intention is to get the young child’s attention before they cause their-self harm, just like our nightmares are simply a way to startle us enough to get our attention and keep us from suffering. Recurring nightmares are the result of failing to change even after the first message, or nightmare takes place.

The best way to prevent recurring dreams and recurring nightmares is to keep a Dream Journal to understand what you’re dreams are trying to communicate.
