Drawitbetter Contest #9: Totem Elephant (Fiber Drawing)
It's been a few days since I last uploaded a blog. So here's a "how to" of my art.
This piece is in line with @sirsensei 's competition which is the "draw it better".
It was indeed a privilege to be part of the last competition's honorable mentions.
Now I am going to present to you my latest art, and my own version of an elephant, which is the "totem elephant". Hope you liked it.
Fiber Drawing
I don't know if a lot of people appreciate this kind of approach into drawing, because it takes a lot of
effort and patience. It is not a joke making an output using this method, that is why I want to show you a remake of it, which is called "contemporary fiber drawing". Where you don't need to have a full fiber drawing, you just have to add patterns and other intricate designs with it. it does not only beautify, or amplify the uniqueness of the drawing, it also makes it even better when it comes to recognizing the whole of the art. So this is a "how to" in creating the latter.
Materials needed
Any clean, blank paper.
A pencil, any kind.
0.3 or 0.4 sign pen. (G-tec)
The process
Draw the outline of the elephant. Make sure to make it light, so that it wont't have any marks, once you erase it.
now draw the fiber on both side of the cheeks surrounding the eyes, as much as possible make it spontaneous and symmetrical to the other side.
draw non fiber patterns, on the lower forehead, to show division and uniqueness. When it comes to patterns, be spontaneous in making it just like doing the fibers.
now on the folds of the nose of the elephant make sure to make it visible, and making emphasis to it. To give it a dimensional look.
Just continue making patterns and fibers. Please if you want more of this, comment and i'll make a much more elaborated version of fiber drawings.
But before that we have to check the edges of the patterns by using edges and negative editions of it. here let me show you:
so as we can see clearly, the pattern are well connected and shows beauty in different colors, then you could really say that you did well. so here's some photos of the finish product.
