Drawitbetter Contest #9 Entry: Elephant

According to World Wild Life, elephants are known as the largest land mammals. The face tremendous danger as hunters kill them for their tusks.

I have always wanted to meet one and ride on its back but some wild life advocates say elephants experience tremendous trainings from their handlers. This made me want to protect them by giving awareness to others.

Anyway, this is my entry for week 9's competition! I hope you would love the process as much as you would love the entry.

STEPS/ PROCESS

I used my Samsung Tablet A with S Pen in coming up with this week's entry. I started by making an outline for my subject. I also made an outline for the grass to have a glimpse of dimension of this digital art.

I initially started painting the elephant with different tones of grey. I used the brush tool on this one and adjusted the opacity. I tried imagining where the shadow lies for our subject.

I added emphasis on the eyes using different tones of black and white. I also want to give depth in our subject so I used multiple colors in shading.

This is the magnified image of the elephant's head.

I am a bit satisfied with the elephant so I started painting the background with complementary tones of blue and green.

I added few more details on the background using complementary colors so that the background would not be true bright. By doing so, it allows the elephant to be our focal point in this digital art.

I used light yellow and other shades of yellow and green in drawing the grass.

I also added few more colors for the grass to make it more lively. I really want elephants to experience of being liberated -- far away fro, zoo keepers and handlers. I want them to be back at their habitat. I also paint the sun with different bright tones of yellow.

I added brown for big stones on our background. I also decided to put minor details to make this digital art more attractive. You could clearly see how messy my strokes are.
